Flight of the Butterflies, Butterflies of Hope Warrior Stories is a lupus awareness campaign sharing stories of the brave lupus warriors. Many don’t understand lupus until they hear the walk of a warrior. Flight of the Butterflies, Butterflies of Hope Warrior Stories is dedicated to sharing those stories in May for lupus awareness month.
Flight of the Butterfly Crystal Whitmire
I’m a 35 year old wife and mother to three children,12, 10, and 5. My story started when I was 32. Random rashes that I brushed off as sun exposure or my sensitive skin. It wasn’t until the summer of 2020 that I noticed things became alot worse.
Days I physically couldn’t walk because of the pain. The mouth ulcers and My hair was falling out in clumps. A few other symptoms were present as well. After many many tests I was diagnosed with the”L” word. And, it was affecting my central nervous system. At first I was kinda in shock, but within a few minutes I left the doctor’s office and realized that I had to learn everything I could about SLE.
Hey, I’m only 35 with lots of things to do! No time to sit around fretting about it. Every day is definitely a battle, but it’s not the end of the war. Along with my amazing husband, my wonderful children, my family and my church family I have such a great support group and many troops fighting right beside. I’m not sure why God chose me to fight this battle, but I will fight this battle for His glory and honor. If I can bring hope to just one other family effected by this horrible disease then that’s worth the fight in itself. ~Crystal Whitmire~ Greenville, SC
