7 Day Mindful Eating Challenge
Mindfully chew your food. Pay attention to what happens to the food as you chew. How long does it take to thoroughly chew your food before you swallow it? As you continue to chew and swallow, can you feel digestion occur and hunger begin to be satisfied? Chewing breaks down food particles into smaller pieces upon which the digestive enzymes can act, lubricating and softening food so that it is more easily absorbed in the stomach and digested, lessening problems such as constipation and acid reflux. You don’t have to count how many times you chew, just be mindful of chewing thoroughly.
Challenge: Chew each bite thoroughly before you move on to the next. Allow yourself to feel every texture and pay attention to how the food feels as you swallow.
