Flight of the Butterflies is a lupus awareness campaign sharing stories of the brave lupus warriors. Many don’t understand lupus until they hear the walk of a warrior. Flight of the Butterflies is dedicated to sharing those Butterfly of Hope stories in May for lupus awareness month.
Butterfly Flight Dorista Dimitu
Hello am Dorista from Kenya I was diagnosed with lupus last year 2023 in the month of August but I realized that I have battled the disease for over 30 years unknowingly.
The hardest part of living with lupus is the extreme fatigue for many years and rough skin, and swellings that would come and go.
After going untreated for many years it started affecting my kidneys and blood pressure.I went through a kidney biopsy after admission and have been on several drugs since then.I started using sunscreen on daily basis to avoid flare ups.
I have learnt that early diagnosis is very essential because I had ignored so many symptoms which aggravated the condition. Never push yourself to do any work when fatigue kicks in rest and do what you are able. at good food particularly anti-inflammatory foods and fruits.
Work with your doctors attend every appointment tell your doctor anything you feel which is not normal.
For those newly diagnosed take it easy follow your doctors advice take your meds the good thing is that the disease goes on remission when you follow the doctor and have a positive mind.
What keeps me strong is the fact that I was diagnosed and I know what ailed me, in fact my doctors tell me I am already in remission the proteins that were leaking in the urine are over. I feel strong. I walk 5km daily and I sleep well.
