THE 12TH ANNUAL FLIGHT OF THE BUTTERFLIES
Flight of the Butterflies is a lupus awareness campaign sharing stories of the brave lupus warriors. Many don’t understand lupus until they hear the walk of a warrior. Flight of the Butterflies is dedicated to sharing those Butterfly of Hope stories in May for lupus awareness month.
Butterfly Flight Evelyn Elliott
My name is Evelyn Elliott and I’ve been diagnosed with lupus for three years now. I was lost and did not know what was happening to my body. I thought I was dying and my body was failing me. Fortunately I found a amazing rheumatologist and she did her work and listened to me.
The hardest part of lupus for me is excepting that I will have to live with this all my life, it’s always something popping up with new symptoms. It’s hard to wrap my head around living with pain and the not knowing what to expect next.
I have learned that you have to be your own advocate through this journey, because a lot of doctors either don’t take time to listen and rush you out or they just say well the tests look fine and act like they don’t believe you.
My advice to anyone who is just finding out they have lupus is to take pictures for proof and write all your symptoms down. Eat as healthy as you can and exercise as your body allows you too. And rest when your body says so.
The one thing that keeps me the strongest is prayer,with out God I would have fallen.
