Through the eyes and hearts of lupus warriors, we share stories that often go unseen. Stories of pain, resilience, and triumph! These butterflies may have been battered by the storm, but they continue to rise, wings open, ready to soar.

I was diagnosed with Lupus October 1994. Life before Lupus was enjoyable, I was able to move around without pain and discomfort. I didn’t have to worry about taking medicine on a daily basis. I wasn’t always tired and I didn’t have to worry about how different my life would be.
My biggest challenge since being diagnosed with SLE Lupus has been dealing with the pain and worrying how Lupus is affecting my body.Worrying about flare ups and how long will they last and what damage Lupus is doing to my body.
My grandbabies keep me going. I refuse to give into this illness because I need to be here for them. My daughter is the other person that keeps me going. She pushes me to fight to live, to live my life to the fullest. To not give up no matter how hard it may get. My support system keep me going as well. They allow me to feel what I feel but will also remind me not to stay in that negative mindset.
What helps me to find peace in my Lupus journey is my faith in God. My desire to not give up no matter how hard it might get.
My advice to anyone who has just been diagnosed with Lupus, DON’T GIVE UP, YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW!!!! You have to be your own advocate and speak up when it comes to your health. Remind yourself that it’s ok to have bad days, it’s ok to cry, scream, be upset, and angry. Feel what you feel but don’t allow the feeling to take over. Know that you are NOT by yourself. You have a community that will support you.
