When you practice PMR, you intentionally tense and then relax each muscle group in your body. This process helps you become more aware of the sensations in your body and also helps you learn to consciously release muscle tension. By releasing muscle tension, you can decrease the physical symptoms of stress and anxiety, such as headaches, muscle aches, and tightness in the chest.
